While winter is often a time to slow down and recharge, some plants take advantage…
Trees and Shrubs Workshop March 4th
While we are still in the heart of winter here in the Madison, many wise landowners are already beginning to think about our next season: planting. But for many people who have tried, getting your trees and shrubs to establish and have a nice long life isn’t always an easy task.
As a way to help landowners understand the best way to plant trees and shrubs on their land, the Madison Conservation District will be holding a Conservation Planting workshop on Tuesday March 4th from noon until 2 PM. This workshop will provide information on everything from selecting species and types to caring for the plants for the long term.
Our climate and soils can sometimes make establishing successful plantings a challenge, so this event will focus on helping people be successful in their efforts. These projects fall into the category of conservation plantings, which means they provide some significant conservation benefit such as a preventing soil erosion, providing habitat for livestock or wildlife, or stabilizing banks along streams and rivers.
On hand to discuss secrets for success will be Brian Quilter from the DNRC seedling nursery and Beau Downing, stream expert with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks. Cost to attend is $5 and includes lunch. Attendees should RSVP to 682-3181 by Friday February 28th.
